about us

Anhinga Press, Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)3 operating in Tallahassee, Florida. Since 1974 our mission has been to bring quality poetry to a broad audience by publishing poetry, sponsoring poetry events and educational activities, participating in writers conferences, working with area colleges, making our books available as textbooks for students, and networking with other arts organizations as a good citizen of the arts community and the community at large. We are a proud supporter of community organizations like Second Harvest of the Big Bend; a percentage of our annual contest fees go directly to “feed 11 counties in Florida’s Big Bend.”

We are committed to publishing and supporting diverse voices from the United States. We offer FREE books by an array of diverse Anhinga poets to students and community groups as a part of our “Poetry & Community” program.

The Press is thrilled to partner with JackLeg Press to foster a space for cross-promotion and communication, share best practices, and work with a range of literary artists and leaders.

Our interns are recruited from the Department of English and Modern Languages at Florida A&M University, an HBCU founded in 1887 located in Tallahassee, Florida.

Our Vice President until recently, Michael Rothenberg, Founder and Editor, Big Bridge; and Founder, 100 Thousand Poets for Change, pased away on Nov. 21, 2022. A man of letters, he was generous with his expertise, his knowledge, and contacts. He will be remembered forever as an Anhinga Board Member and supporter.
