PHILIP LEVINE PRIZE FOR POETRY
Anhinga Press is proud to co-sponsor the Philip Levine Prize in Poetry run by California State University, Fresno. The Levine Prize is an annual book contest, open to all poets (except current or former students or faculty of CSU/Fresno). The winner receives a $2,000 prize and publication and distribution of the winning manuscript by Anhinga Press. The winning poet also receives 25 free author copies of the book.
Anhinga Press does not administer the Levine Prize; we do not accept or read submissions for the prize. The actual reading and judging is coordinated by CSU, Fresno. Please do not send ANY manuscripts for the Levine Prize to Anhinga Press.
Philip Levine taught at California State University, Fresno for many years, and is one of the best known and most highly-honored of American poets. During his career he published more than 17 books of poems, as well as several volumes of translations, essays, and a memoir. His list of honors includes two National Book Awards, two National Book Critics Circle Awards, the American Book Award, the Ruth Lily Poetry Prize for Distinguished Poetic Achievement, and the Pulitzer Prize for poetry.
